London’s Most Iconic Dining Spot is Finally Becoming a Manhattan Hotel
For years, The Wolseley has been the kind of place people plan their mornings around. Breakfast turns into a longer stay, with coffee on the table and the city moving just outside the windows. The setting, the pace, and the familiar routine are what draw people back.
Now that experience is heading to Manhattan with a different approach. The name is no longer tied to a standalone restaurant. It is being developed as a hotel, carrying that same feel into a much larger space.
From Piccadilly Institution To Global Brand

The Wolseley opened in 2003 on Piccadilly, though the building dates back to 1921. It began as a car showroom, later became a Barclays Bank, and was eventually transformed into the café-style restaurant that became a fixture in London’s dining scene.
From the start, the space reflected the feel of classic European hotel dining rooms. The layout and service supported long breakfasts, afternoon tea, and all-day dining, which helped shape how people used the space.
That consistency shows in the numbers. In 2025, the restaurant served 45,750 afternoon teas, a clear sign of its steady demand.
The next step builds on what was already there. Minor Hotels took control in 2022 and began positioning the brand for expansion. The move into New York City marks the start of that shift, turning a single location into a broader hospitality concept.
Why Manhattan Makes Sense

The Wolseley Hotel New York is set to open in early 2027 in Midtown, just off Bryant Park at 130 West 44th Street.
The choice of Manhattan follows the same pattern that worked in London. The city revolves around dining, movement, and shared public spaces where people gather and linger. The concept fits into that environment without needing much adjustment.
The building itself adds another layer. Originally constructed in 1905 as the clubhouse for The Lambs Club, it has long ties to Broadway and the theater community. That background lines up with The Wolseley, which has always drawn from culture as much as food.
A Hotel Where Dining Comes First
The Wolseley New York places the restaurant at the center of the experience. The project serves as the brand’s North American flagship, with a full brasserie that follows the format of the London original. Service runs throughout the day, and the space is intended for both hotel guests and the wider city.
The hotel will include 76 rooms and suites, along with a cellar-level speakeasy and a wellness center. Even with these additions, the dining room remains the main hub of activity and where most of the interaction takes place.
Minor Hotels is using this opening to expand The Wolseley into a wider hospitality brand. Manhattan is the first step, with plans to grow across Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East.
