Miami has eclipsed its neighbor for decades, but Fort Lauderdale is beginning to shine brightly enough to compete for attention. But we chose Fort Lauderdale over Miami for two important reasons. One, there aren't as many crowds. And two, the beach is actually nicer, according to our Miami-based staff writer.

This recently opened Kimpton hotel is already generating buzz thanks to its swanky rooftop bar, two pools and proximity to the beach.

Getting To and Around Fort Lauderdale

Another reason to choose Fort Lauderdale over Miami is that flights to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport are usually cheaper. (Though we won't lie, the airport is not great.)
After landing, we highly encourage you to rent a car. While you'll be in the epicenter of all the action at any of the hotels mentioned above, moving around without a car will be difficult, especially if you want to see other parts of the city.
Beachy Girls Trip Alternative: Maui, Hawaii

If your squad wants to make this getaway extra special, splurge for a group vacation to gorgeous Maui. Known as the Valley Isle, Maui is much more rugged than the Big Island or Oahu. This translates into incredible experiences like completing the road to Hana, whale watching and hiking.
