Visit Finland, the country’s official tourism body, is inviting international travelers to take part in a program called “Chill Like a Finn.” The offer says that six pairs will receive a fully funded, seven-day trip to Finnish Lakeland in June 2026.
This is not a luxury escape built around packed itineraries. The structure aims to help visitors understand how Finns maintain a steady sense of well-being throughout the year. Finnish Lakeland, often described as Europe’s largest lake district, plays a key role because it’s where locals go to reset.
Why Finland Keeps Ranking First

The United Nations rankings look at several factors, including income levels, healthcare access, life expectancy, freedom of choice, generosity, and low corruption. Finland has led the list for eight consecutive years, which shows consistency rather than a short-term spike.
That consistency shapes how the country approaches this initiative. Instead of presenting happiness as a concept, the program treats it as a pattern of behavior.
The Routine That Powers It All
The biggest reveal comes through what participants will actually do each day. Mornings often start outdoors, with activities like hiking through Kolovesi National Park or spending time by the lakes. Movement is light and natural, tied to the environment rather than structured workouts.
Afternoons move into slower activities. Sauna sessions, reading, or even taking a nap are part of the routine. Evenings lean into quiet social time: simple meals, often grilled, followed by more time near the water or a fire. Then the cycle repeats.
Finnish locals describe this rhythm as something that carries them through the rest of the year. A few weeks of this pattern can set the tone for the next eleven months.
Summer Is the Real Centerpiece

One detail appears in every version of this program: summer is more important than anything else. Finland experiences four distinct seasons, yet summer is distinct because it’s when people step away from structured schedules and spend extended time at lakeside cabins.
Participants will step into that same rhythm. Wake when it feels natural, head outside, stay active in simple ways, then return to slower moments like sauna and swimming. The repetition is intentional, and over time, it builds a steady pace that feels sustainable.
How To Apply Before It Closes
The application process reflects the same straightforward approach. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and apply in pairs. That pair can be a partner, friend, family member, or anyone willing to join.
Step one is to create a short video on Instagram or TikTok. Each pair introduces themselves and answers a prompt about what they expect a Finnish summer in Lakeland to look like.
Step two involves completing an application form on the official website and linking to that video. The deadline is March 29, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EEST. Selected participants will travel in June for the full seven-day program.
