Best Galentine’s Day Destinations in North America
Valentine's Day is a day for love and friendship in some countries. And we love that. Love should always be celebrated, but it's weird to have a day to celebrate only one type of love.
If you think it's unfair that only couples get to go on fun escapades on Feb. 14, gather up your single friends and do a Galentine's Day trip. It's the perfect way to strengthen your friendship and spend time with some of your favorite people.
Wondering where to go? Here are 10 incredible trip destinations perfect for a girls' getaway.

10. Boulder, Colorado
If your friend group is crunchy, active and into enjoying the breathtaking beauty of nature, plan an escape to Boulder. You'll get incredible hiking opportunities in the city, and Rocky Mountain National Park is only about an hour away.
When you're not savoring the views that make you question whether you're in a dream, sample the million-and-one breweries and food trucks in the city.
Where to stay: Hotel Boulderado
9. Oistins, Barbados
Anywhere you go in Barbados is going to be amazing. But for a disconnected and relaxed getaway, we recommend Oistins.
This area is south of Bridgetown, the capital, and has plenty of restaurants, hotels and places to dance soka the entire night. But its beaches are quieter, and there is still a strong fishing village vibe that can't be beat.
Where to stay: Little Arches Boutique Hotel Barbados
8. Healdsburg, California
Everyone looking for a North American wine weekend heads to Napa. But go a bit more north to get to Healdsburg.
Located in Sonoma County, the pretty town is near three wine valleys: Russian River, Dry Creek and Alexander Valley. And though tasting the fruit of the vine will take up most of your time, Healdsburg also boasts plenty of outdoor activities like biking (while wine tasting), hiking (while wine tasting) and outdoor yoga (probably before wine tasting).
It's the stuff girls' getaway dreams are made of.
Where to stay: Montage Healdsburg
7. Antigua, Guatemala
Surrounded by mighty volcanoes and decorated in gorgeous Spanish colonial architecture, Antigua is considered one of Latin America's best places to visit.
You and your friends can spend the day getting social media-worthy shots, trying local cuisine and hiking up the volcanoes.
Pro tip: Choose a tour that includes marshmallow roasting in volcanic heat for the best smores of your life.
Where to stay: Porta Hotel Antigua
6. Bacalar, Mexico
Cancun and Tulum are cool and all, but if you'd rather not spend your Galentine's getaway dealing with crowds, go to Bacalar instead.
This hidden gem is south of Tulum and known for its incredible lagoon, nicknamed the Lake of Seven Colors.
It's an excellent destination for relaxing in beautiful bungalows near the water and kayaking around spectacular landscapes.
Where to stay: Las Nubes By Mij
5. Quebec, Canada
Indescribably beautiful Quebec is Canada's best city. The old town feels like a medieval center in Europe, the food is a fusion of French and English fare mixed with international flavors, and the people are so, so nice.
Don't worry about coming to Canada in the winter. While much of the country is dreary in the middle of February, Quebec's beauty is only enhanced by the blankets of snow that make it look like it belongs in a fairy tale.
Where to stay: Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac
4. Dominican Republic
For those who want to get away from the cold, the Dominican Republic is a no-brainer. Yes, it's a bit unfair to include an entire country, but we can't pick only one place in this destination.
The magic of the island is that it has any experience you want. From culinary tours to ATV adventures to luxurious all-inclusive resorts, the DR has it all.
Though if we did have to choose, we'd go for Santo Domingo, the surprisingly amazing capital.
Where to stay: El Beaterio Casa Museo in Santo Domingo
3. La Fortuna, Costa Rica
If half the friend group wants adventure and half wants a spa getaway, go to La Fortuna. This popular Costa Rican escape is known for Arenal Volcano, which provides plenty of outdoor activities while creating numerous relaxing natural hot springs.
You can hike along the base of the volcano, take a cold dip in the imposing La Fortuna waterfall, and go rafting and rappelling. Then, spend all afternoon soaking in a hot spring and indulging in spa treatments.
Where to stay: Miradas Arenal Hotel & Hot Springs
2. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, Puerto Vallarta is famous for its beaches, some of which are considered the most beautiful in the country. But the town itself is pretty and alluring, with numerous bars, restaurants and shops.
Use this getaway to get lots of sun, tacos and tequila. A sure recipe for a perfect trip with friends.
Where to stay: Barceló Puerto Vallarta
1. New Orleans, Louisiana
Things are only cliché if they're unjustified. So we have no shame saying there is no better place for a trip with your girlfriends than New Orleans. In fact, we'll come right out and say this is the best city in the United States. Period.
Stroll along the French Quarter, hop around music lounges on Bourbon Street and eat as much Cajun food as possible. And don't forget New Orleans also has plenty to do outside the tourist center, with museums, galleries and cultural centers all over town.
