All 50 states have a burrito that we dubbed the best of the best, coming from traditional Mexican taco trucks to Asian Tex-Mex fusion restaurants.

No matter how crazy the world gets, we can all agree on one thing. Burritos. Are. Awesome. Plain bean and cheese gives a nostalgic throwback to childhood, while there are dozens of fancier combos out there just waiting to be tried.

But what’s the best burrito in every state? All 50 states have one that we dubbed the best of the best, coming from traditional Mexican taco trucks to Asian Tex-Mex fusion restaurants.

Alabama: Los Dos Hermanos Taco Truck, Birmingham

Bring an appetite and some cash because this cash-only taco truck is the hottest place to get your Mexican food fix in Birmingham. Tacos, tortas, quesadillas and, you guessed it, spectacular burritos are the name of the game here.

The best way to take the tastiness of a burrito up a notch is with homemade tortillas. Anita Street Market does just that, using homemade flour tortillas in the signature carne asada burritos and smaller, masa tortillas for the tacos. This taco shop tends to have more tortilla than filling, but the tortillas are so good that it doesn’t matter.

Travel to Ecuador without leaving the states at this eclectic Ecuadorian eatery. The multilevel restaurant is higher-priced than most burrito places, but it’s worth it. Diners can chow down on fish tacos or an enormous Popeye Burrito with a side of garlic rice — all with a stunning view of the mountainside. Most of the plates are large, so expect to split something or have epic leftovers to take home.

Los Angeles locals love their taco trucks, and their Mexican food standards can’t get any higher. El Primo Tacos is something else. You get to choose between several different meats, including carne asada and classic el pastor. You also get to essentially build your own burritos, choosing from a variety of toppings like onions, peppers and even pineapple. Yum!

Rincon Taqueria is a more traditional Mexican restaurant compared to some of the other places on our list, but with one big aside. (Keyword being big!) The burritos here are about twice the size of a typical burrito. Multiple reviewers mentioned that each one could feed three grown men, without sacrificing any of the flavor.

It offers tons of classic dishes like caldo de pollo, but true to its name, burritos are its specialty. They’re big, packed with rice, tomatoes, lettuce and any meat you can imagine. Florida: A-Mari-Mix Fresh Mex Fusion, Miami

The standout offering at this Cuban-inspired spot are the burritos and tacos stuffed with ropa vieja, a tomato-y stew made of shredded beef that’s especially popular in Puerto Rico and other parts in the Caribbean. It comes with rice — but not too much — and a healthy helping of tomatoes and lettuce to cut the fat. If you want to be really decadent, get it smothered with red and green enchilada sauce and buried under a mountain of melted cheese. It’ll be the largest enchilada you’ve ever seen.

But look closer, and you’ll find it’s a paradise of Hawaiian specialties, including four different sushi burritos and several poke bowls. Kenji Burger is probably the only place where you can eat what’s essentially a giant sushi roll followed by a five-star milkshake.

The breakfast burritos are gargantuan, packed full of potatoes, eggs, cheese and any meat you could want. Bacon and steak? No problem. Chorizo and ham? You’ve got it. Don’t forget the hot sauce!

Kentucky: Tortillería Y Taquería Ramírez, Lexington

Lexington has been affectionately nicknamed “Mexington”. There are quite a few Mexican places near this one, but we’ll save you the trouble of picking one. This one is the best, hands down. The carnitas and asada are expertly prepared, and the cooks here know their way around making tortillas from scratch. Corn is the magic ingredient, and Tortilleria Y Taqueria Ramirez really gets it right.

“Ramirez is my favorite restaurant in town. It’s the most low-key place, but the food is something special. The drinks are served yourself, and you can either order with a waitress or at the counter. I’ve had the pozole (cured my hangover immediately), the chico burrito with asada or carnitas (perfect size for me), and the sopes (all the kind I’ve had were so great). If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food in NOLA, Taqueria Habaneros is made for you. The birria tacos are a fan favorite, but every menu item is flavorful and made from scratch, including the tortillas. The pricing is shockingly reasonable for such great food, and the burritos are enormous.

“This place is sooo good. We ordered for the first time this past weekend and will definitely be back. I got two birria tacos with rice and beans and a margarita, my husband got the birria burrito, and our daughter got the kids’ hot dog and nuggets. We also got queso and guacamole. Everything was so delicious, but my favorites were the rice and beans. Honestly could have made a meal out of that. The margarita was off the chain, too. All of this cost less than $50. That’s crazy! Normally, when we order food, at least one of us is like, meh. Not with this place. Everyone loved the food. Maine is known for seafood, and El El Frijoles doesn’t disappoint. The spicy lobster burrito is the top choice, along with lobster tacos and fresh guacamole. When the weather’s warm, guests can enjoy their meals out in the sun on quaint picnic benches.

“This place is so good! Luis is lovely. Make sure you don’t over-order because their portions are HUGE. We had vegetarian tacos and the dragon burrito, which is smothered in cheese and mole. Sabroso, which means “tasty” in Spanish, is a fast casual chain that lives up to its name. Street taco fans should look elsewhere, but if you like something clean, simple and Chipotle-esque, Sabroso is the one for you. You’re not going to find burritos covered in sauce and melted cheese, but you will find a somewhat healthier style of Mexican food, conveniently located downtown. The shrimp burrito is a fan favorite, so give it a try if you’re into seafood.

Michigan: Loco Burrito, Saugatuck

OK, weirdly enough this Yelp page says it’s called El Burrito Feliz, but the sign outside and menu at this gem of a restaurant in Saugatuck calls it Loco Burrito (not to be confused with the Illinois El Burrito Loco chain). If you want delicious Tex-Mex fare, with bottomless chips and salsa and margaritas the size of your face, this is the place to go in Michigan. And, yes, the burrito options are plentiful and massive.

“By far the best Mexican food I and my family have ever had (and that’s coming from people who have tried multiple places for Mexican food)! Every little thing was amazing, from the margaritas to the guacamole and all of our entrées. We live in Grand Rapids and plan on driving here just for their food! Burrito Zone doesn’t have a ton of frills, but that’s a good thing. The food tastes more like it was made with love in someone’s kitchen, not in an assembly line — especially the tamales, which are AH-MAZING!

“They reel you in with the “Chipotle” style line, but their tamales really get you with the homemade feel. Their chicken tamales were green chile and really hit the spot for me as I was visiting Biloxi for Thanksgiving. They have lots of options (although they didn’t have al pastor when I went, which I was really looking forward to), large and clean area, great service, and not too far from hotels and main shopping areas. This place usually sells out before closing time, so get there early!

It’s hard to imagine until you’ve tried it, but the fusion burrito with bulgogi, Mexican rice, onions, pico de gallo, cilantro and lettuce is every bit as delicious as it sounds.

There’s a Mexican joint aptly named California Burritos, and customer reviews surely show just how much it’s earned its title. This place has everything covered, fresh queso and guac included. If you (gasp!) don’t like burritos much, California Burritos’ pupusas are rumored to be bombtastic.

The most unique part of Bollywood Grill is that it offers a little of everything without cutting any corners. Usually, places that try to do it all end up with mediocre everything. Not here! It may not be Mexico, but it’s the next best thing. The tacos al pastor at El Chile Toreado are the best in the state, with some customers claiming to still be drooling about it for weeks after. Something about the combination of spiciness, slightly fatty cuts of meat and the surprising addition of pineapple make these tacos worth remembering.

Mexican food pretty much revolves around meat and cheese, so it was surprising to find a vegan restaurant with such rave reviews. Jajaja’s chorizo burrito isn’t actually made of chorizo at all. Instead, it’s made of seitan, a popular meat substitute. While it’s not identical to the real thing, it’s just as good, according to some reviewers.

Less food truck than food car, the teeny, tiny Taco Bros truck isn’t much to look at. The food doesn’t even look like you’d expect, with square, folded burritos. It’s not what one would call authentic Mexican, and the salsa is usually dumped messily on top, but it’s so tasty that it doesn’t matter.

Cabo Bob’s is based in Austin, and it’s five locations serve up special, seasoned tortillas that are to die for. Smoky cheddar is one of the best tortilla options, made from scratch with unbleached wheat flour. True to the very nature of Texas, the brisket at Cabo Bob’s is on point.

Is it a food truck? Is it an old gas station? Yes. The setup is a little unconventional, but the food is stellar. If you’re a Mexican food veteran or feeling brave, try the lengua or tripas. If you’re not convinced by the rave reviews, the sheer loveliness of the owners will push you over the edge. When one customer left her purse there, the owner offered to mail it to her free of charge, as she’d done previously for more than one busy traveler. So nice!

“I love this place. It is memorable and a must-stop when driving through Utah, especially when there are so few options along the highway. Even if there were some great options, I would still make a stop here to enjoy authentic home-cooked food. The chorizo and carnitas tacos are the standouts for me. They’re the only wholesale and retail tortilla bakery in the state and Burlington’s only independently owned wrap shop. Yes, we said wrap. The tortillas are handmade, and the food is as flavorful as it comes.
