These TikTokers Thought They Were Flying to Nice and Accidentally Ended Up in Tunis
A pair of American TikTokers recently went viral for boarding the wrong international flight. Brittney Dzialo and her friend intended to visit Nice, France, but ended up in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia.
They documented the situation in a series of TikToks and captured the moment they discovered they were flying to an entirely different continent. The internet responded quickly, and the confusion became one of the platform’s most unexpected travel stories.
A Missed Flight Led to a Booking Error at the Counter
Initially, the pair were headed to the correct destination and were flying from Rome to Nice. However, they missed their flight. They approached the airport staff to request another booking to the same French city. While speaking to the airline representative, they said they needed a flight “to Nice.” The staff, reportedly mishearing them, interpreted the request as “Tunis.” The two were then directed to Tunisair, the flag carrier of Tunisia.
At that point, they purchased tickets without realizing they were headed to North Africa. Neither noticed the new destination printed on their boarding passes. According to their later TikTok explanations, this key misunderstanding occurred during a rushed and possibly noisy exchange at the airport.
Although the error could have been caught during ticket confirmation, it wasn’t discovered until much later. The airline agents did not verify the destination clearly, and the travelers assumed their request had been understood. This mistake set everything else in motion, which included a flight they never meant to board.
The Flight Took Off Without Them Knowing the Truth
Brittney and her friend passed through the boarding process and found their seats on the aircraft. Once in the air, Brittney started chatting with a fellow passenger. When she asked if the plane was heading to Nice, the passenger responded that the flight was going to Tunis. That brief exchange made the mistake clear. Brittney recorded her response and shared the clip online.
She then asked a flight attendant if they could get off, but the answer was no. Their checked luggage had already been loaded, and protocol didn’t allow passengers to disembark once baggage was secured.
With no other option, they continued the journey to Tunisia. At that moment, they began preparing to fix the situation after landing, still unsure how they would get to their intended destination.
Language Barriers Created a Bigger Problem in Tunis
After landing in Tunis, they began asking airport staff for help, but communication quickly became difficult. The airport staff primarily spoke French or Arabic, while Brittney and her friend only spoke English.
As per Brittney’s TikToks, they faced frustration on both sides. Airline employees didn’t immediately offer solutions. Instead, the travelers were told they needed to purchase new tickets and could not leave that night.
Brittney claimed that the personnel showed little patience and began referencing EU air passenger rights to push for better treatment, though Tunisia is not part of the EU.
The Captain Held the Plane While They Rushed to the Gate
Eventually, one airline worker stepped in and managed to find a flight to Nice scheduled to depart later that day. Time was tight, and in one of the videos, Brittney revealed that the worker even asked the flight’s captain to wait while the two passengers ran toward the gate. This final stretch brought some relief.
They shot another update from their seats, letting viewers know what was happening in real time. Days later, Brittney posted a photo of her friend by a fountain in France with a caption that made it clear they had finally reached Nice. The post wrapped up the detour that had started with a mix-up at the airport counter.
